Music at an early age is not only fun but is an important part of learning and growing. Singing and clapping together can help us build verbal skills, promote cooperation, and give us confidence as we grow!
An orchestra is a big group of musicians who play music together. Each type of instrument is grouped together into different families. The instrument families are strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. Played together they can make beautiful music called symphonies!
Stories and places come alive through Ori Tahiti. Drummers represent sounds of the sea, wind, and trees and provide a beat for dancers. Before there was a written language, dancers told stories of legends, heroes, and lessons learned through their movement.
In Native stories, we find legends, history, maps, poems, food and traveling. These tales are often told by elders to youth and share family history and culture. Some are owned by particular families, like owning a book—handed down generation to generation.
A tortilla, "small cake", is a flat bread used in Mexican cuisine that is normally made out of maize (corn). Tortillas date back thousands of years, and were made of native maize. It was the main food of the Aztecs who lived in Mesoamerica.
It’s never too early to talk about race with your children. Experts recommend naming and taking action against racism with kids as early and as often as possible, as kids can demonstrate racial bias as early as 3 years old.
You don’t need expensive supplies to be an artist, you can use almost anything! Upcycling is the process of taking waste and transforming it into something new. Lint from your dryer, paper from the recycle, or even a potato can be used to create a masterpiece!
